Janet Yellen, the candidate for the post of the head of the US Treasury, has promised to keep sanctions against Russia over Crimea. This was reported by Bloomberg correspondent Saleha Mosin on her Twitter account, citing Yellen's written replies to the senators.
The candidate for the post of minister said she supports tough sanctions against Russia. “I am committed to the rigorous implementation of sanctions aimed at Russian players for territorial aggression in Eastern Ukraine and Crimea and other threats to US national security,” Yellen said.
Earlier, Yellen promised to review the sanctions imposed by Washington against other countries during the administration of new President Joe Biden. If her appointment is approved, Yellen is going to immediately change the sanctions policy. This will be done in such a way that the restrictions are used for strategic purposes.
Anti-Russian sanctions by the United States, the European Union and a number of other countries were introduced in connection with the entry of Crimea into Russia in 2014 and the aggravation of the situation in southeastern Ukraine. Economic restrictions are regularly extended.
