The US authorities have decided to temporarily transfer their embassy in Ukraine from Kiev to Lvov. This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, writes TASS.

As the head of the State Department explained, the reason for this decision was the “dramatic acceleration of the buildup of Russian forces” on the border with Ukraine.

Earlier, Blinken called the evacuation of employees of the American embassy in Kiev a prudent measure against the backdrop of a high risk of escalation around Ukraine.

On February 13, it became known that US Charge d'Affaires in Ukraine Christina Quinn and other diplomatic staff of the US Embassy were moving from Kiev to Lvov. The decision to move was made urgently as a response to changing safety assessments.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the relocation of some embassies to Western Ukraine a big mistake.
