The United States is thinking about the transfer of troops closer to the borders of Russia

The United States is considering options for the transfer of its troops from Germany closer to the borders of Russia – to Bulgaria, Romania and the Baltic states. This is stated by TASS, citing a source in American military circles.

It is specified that we are talking about a possible rotational presence. Earlier, the head of the Pentagon, Mark Esper, said that the United States could move its Second Armored Regiment from Germany to another country, closer to Russia.

“We intend to deploy US forces on the eastern flank of NATO on a permanent, rotational basis to implement the guidelines set out by the Secretary of Defense,” the source quoted the agency as saying.

At the end of September, Esper announced that the Pentagon would withdraw from Germany about 11.9 thousand troops stationed there, and also move the headquarters of the European Command of the US Armed Forces to Belgium.

In early June, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said he hoped to transfer US troops from Germany to Poland soon. Earlier, Andrzej Duda repeatedly asked the Pentagon to increase its military presence in the republic and even promised to build a base called “Fort Trump” for two billion dollars.

In June 2019, it became known about the agreements between Washington and Warsaw on the deployment of an additional contingent of troops in Poland. The total number of American units in this country can reach 5.5 thousand people. The command expects that this will help “improve the quality” of the American group.
