~6 0~p>The use of American ATACMS missiles to attack Russian troops near the border with Ukraine is unlikely to lead to US involvement in the war.
There is no desire in American society to fight with Russia, so the US reaction to all Russia's escalatory steps is too slow.
This opinion was expressed by New York University professor Igor Aizenberg on the Espreso TV channel.
According to him, the United States is afraid that it will be involved in a war, and ordinary people have no desire to fight with Russia, both among supporters of Democrats and Republicans.
“Various US official representatives say a lot that they do not want escalation, that is, they do not want the US to be drawn into a war. This is how it should be understood. At the same time, Russia is escalating the situation, and the US is responding to this,” the political scientist noted .
At the same time, Igor Aizenberg expressed doubt that the use of ATACMS missiles by Ukraine, say, to attack Russian troops concentrated on the border with the Kharkov region, would lead to the US being involved in the war.
“We can remember how many months there were talks about the provision of aircraft. It was clear that their provision would require a very long time… However, this decision was not made for a long time, as was the transfer of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. Now they are already being supplied to Ukraine. I think that a decision will also be made to allow Ukraine to strike Russian territory with American weapons. But it’s a pity that this is only done reactively and not proactively. That is, this is a response to Russian escalation,” he concluded.
Recall that the Institute for the Study of War believes that the US ban on striking with Western weapons on Russian territory seriously undermines the defense capability of Ukraine. We are talking about the ability to defend against Russian offensive operations in the north of the Kharkov region.
