The ammunition must travel a distance of 460 km and hit the target with an accuracy of 10 meters.
The US Armed Forces have ordered the production of a new class of high-precision air-launched ERAM ammunition with a destruction range of 460 km. High-precision and long-range missiles are designed to help Ukraine counter Russian aggression.
This was reported by Aviation Week.
As stated in the report, the first request for the production of low-cost long-range munitions (ERAM), capable of traveling 250 nautical miles (460 km), was first published back in January 2024.
July 10, the US Air Force clarified that ERAM is intended to counter Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“This munition is key to accelerating Ukraine's ability to effectively meet battlefield needs and provides affordable, mass-production weapons,” it said.
The US Air Force announced requirements for missiles:
16 unnamed companies have expressed interest in producing this weapon.
The publication noted that the development of ERAM is one of many efforts by the Pentagon to develop new low-cost air-launched ammunition.
Recall, at the White House on July 3 announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth $150 million. It will include, in particular, missiles for Ukrainian air defense, HIMARS and artillery shells.
