The United States imposed sanctions against the Russian tanker group Sovcomflot

< p>The US Treasury has identified 14 oil tankers in which Sovcomflot has a share.

The United States imposed sanctions on the leading Russian tanker group Sovcomflot, thus Washington seeks to reduce Russia's income from oil sales, the proceeds of which are used for the war against Ukraine.

This is reported by Reuters with reference to the Ministry of Finance.

The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control has identified 14 oil tankers in which Sovcomflot has a stake.

The Authority has issued a license allowing 14 vessels to unload crude oil or other cargo for another 45 days.

“Sovcomflot as a whole, as the parent company, was involved in price limit violations in addition to fraudulent activity,” a senior Treasury official told reporters.

A U.S. Treasury official said the sanctions are “basically aimed at taking away some of their funds for this, forcing the Russians to invest more in spending, in creating new ways to sell oil.”

Recall that it was previously reported that the State Department revealed details of a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

In addition, we previously informed that the confiscation of Russian assets does not contradict international law.
