The US Federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reduced the established period of self-isolation for coronavirus infection, according to the agency's website.
The isolation period for COVID-19 was halved from ten to five days. CDC Director Rochelle Walenski stressed that the recommended requirements were updated, including due to the rapid spread of the omicron strain of the coronavirus.
“Given what we currently know about COVID-19 and the omicron variant, the CDC is reducing the recommended isolation time from ten for people with COVID-19 to five days if the disease is asymptomatic, followed by 5 days of wearing a mask in the presence of others “, – emphasized in the statement of the department.
Walenski added that the updated rules will ensure a safe daily life. “Prevention is our best option: get vaccinated, get boosted, put on a mask,” she urged.
Earlier, the United States warned of the dangers of the omicron strain to the healthcare system. The country's chief infectious disease specialist, Anthony Fauci, expressed concern about unvaccinated citizens, as they are most vulnerable to the new COVID-19 mutation.
