In the United States, the authors of the initiative on sanctions against Russia, led by Democratic Senator Robert Menendez from New Jersey, faced difficulties when considering the project. Politicians do not have enough time for this, Roll Call reports.

US senators find it difficult to adopt sanctions against Russia, because they have no time to do it. It was assumed that Menendez would use the current week to win support from Republicans, and next week he would hold a vote. “But the winter weather and the omicron strain of coronavirus destroyed these plans,” Roll Call emphasizes.

“The sand in the clock is running out,” so it is difficult for senators to consider the Menendez project, which he calls “the mother of all sanctions.” Politicians presented other measures against Russia, but it was the Democrat who proposed to introduce restrictions in case of further escalation of the situation in Ukraine. Republicans are in favor of such a decision regardless of the development of events.

Earlier, the United States presented a draft of new restrictions against Russia. Jim Banks, a Republican from the US House of Representatives, has included President Vladimir Putin, high-ranking Russian officials and a number of security officials, journalists, large businessmen, as well as the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline in the sanctions list.
