The Pentagon said the US has expressed its concerns to Russia over recent military aircraft interactions over the Mediterranean. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“We communicated our concerns to Russian officials through diplomatic channels. While no one was hurt, such interactions can lead to miscalculations and errors with dangerous consequences, ”the US military emphasized.
The Pentagon added that three US Navy P-8A aircraft were “intercepted” by Russian aircraft over the weekend. The Russian Ministry of Defense, in turn, has repeatedly stated that all flights are carried out in strict accordance with the International Rules for the Use of Airspace.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that MiG-31K fighters and Tu-22M3 long-range missile-carrying bombers were deployed to the Khmeimim airbase in Syria. The aircraft will take part in the exercises of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea.
