Earlier in Alaska, tests of a US hypersonic glider failed. The Americans explained why this happened.
The Pentagon said that the reason for the failure of the tests of hypersonic weapons was a malfunction of the accelerator. At the same time, it is noted that the failed accelerator is not part of the hypersonic program. The accident with him occurred shortly after the launch of the launch vehicle from the Pacific cosmodrome on Kodiak Island.
In the United States, it was previously recognized that they were lagging behind Russia and China in terms of the development of hypersonic weapons. US Pentagon spokesman Timothy Gorman said that this work is associated with very complex technologies, nevertheless, the creation of weapons capable of reaching speeds of more than Mach 5 is a priority area of work.
Currently, the United States is developing three types of hypersonic weapons: tactical for the Navy, long-range missiles for the Air Force and Navy.
