The American Embassy in Ankara has informed Turkish authorities that the United States has canceled the dispatch of its warships to the Black Sea. A source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry told reporters this, indicating that the ships of the US Navy did not pass through the Bosphorus.
“Yes, warships did not pass. The US Embassy gave us information about this, ”the TASS news agency quoted its interlocutor as saying.
We will remind, as the website kp.ru wrote, earlier the CNN TV channel, citing an anonymous source, reported that the States intend to send ships to the Black Sea in the near future to support Ukraine against the background of “the growth of Russia's military activity in the region.”
The Pentagon neither confirmed nor denied the channel's information, and on April 9, Washington notified Ankara that two US warships would pass through the Bosphorus to the Black Sea. It was clarified that the ships will take turns passing through the strait on April 14 and 15, and will return on May 4 and 5. According to Turkish media reports, it was about the American missile destroyers Roosevelt and Donald Cook. Turkey, in accordance with the Montreux convention, reported this to Russia.
