Russia still uses 3M44 Progress anti-ship missiles in Crimea, writes The Drive. This weapon, which has been in service for almost 50 years, is called a Cold War relic in the publication of the American edition.
Thus, The Drive reacted to the video of the missile launch of the Utes coastal missile complex (DBK), published in October on YouTube by the Zvezda TV channel.
The American edition recalls that during the exercise, the 3M44 Progress missile was successfully intercepted by the air defense system of the frigate Admiral Grigorovich – the M-22 Uragan anti-aircraft missile system (SAM).
The Drive writes that the combat effectiveness of the Utes DBK is questionable, but the Russian Navy still values it. “Even if it is now at least partially used for training in air defense, this Cold War warrior still plays a useful role,” the newspaper writes, recalling that when Crimea belonged to Ukraine, this weapon was not used, and the corresponding military infrastructure was in decline.
In October, Popular Mechanics wrote that the US Army was preparing to arm itself with the Strategic Long Range Cannon (SLRC) strategic ultra-long-range super-gun. The publication notes that the weapon will hit targets at a distance of up to 1,150 miles (more than 1,850 kilometers), which is 50 times higher than the capabilities of such modern operating weapons.
