The United States is ready to work with Russia, provided that cooperation is in the interests of both countries. This was stated by the representative of the State Department Jalina Porter at a briefing, answering a question about Moscow's participation in the Afghan peace settlement, reports TASS.
“In terms of engaging with Russia, we have made it clear that we will interact with them in a way that always promotes US interests,” she explained. According to the representative of the department, Washington is interested in cooperation with Moscow when there are opportunities for the relations between the two countries to be constructive.
Porter recalled that US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad is leaving for Moscow on Thursday to hold consultations on Afghanistan. “He will be there to share his views on the ways of a political settlement. (…) Of course, we hope that the meeting will be productive, ”the State Department spokeswoman said she hoped.
According to the agency, Moscow has invited the US, China, Pakistan, representatives of the Afghan government and the radical Taliban movement (banned in Russia) to the upcoming March 18 consultations.
