Columnist Rod Dreher, in an article for the American Conservative, said that the United States had lost its status as a world hegemon due to its policy of intervention in other countries.
According to the journalist, the States have exhausted themselves in “senseless” military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. “Now we have to live with the consequences of the wrong choice we made then, and no amount of boasting and wishful thinking can change the situation,” he notes.
According to the author of the article, no one gave Washington the right to “be the sole arbiter in international relations.” He stressed that Americans can't stand the idea that “the old enemy of the Cold War,” Russia, pushes the US around, “but deep down nobody wants war.”
Dreher also stressed that the Russian Federation is protecting its geopolitical interests on its own border, and Washington cannot risk starting a Third World War over Ukraine.
According to the journalist, Russia is stronger than it was then, and the United States is weaker, mainly because of its own stupidity. “What is this world order that allows the United States to determine what other countries can and cannot do?” he concluded.
Reports of “Russia's plans to invade Ukraine” appeared in the US media in the fall of 2021. They were quickly picked up by American and Ukrainian politicians. Against the background of these statements, Kiev managed to achieve new deliveries of weapons from NATO countries. Moscow denies reports of aggressive plans against Ukraine.
