Washington is ready to expand military assistance to Kiev in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. This statement was made by a high-ranking representative of the US administration at a press briefing, quoted by TASS.
He said that the United States intends to respond to Russia, including through sanctions against the Russian economic and financial systems and by strengthening NATO's positions in the east.
“We are also ready to increase military assistance to Ukraine to defend its territory and respond to a possible Russian occupation in the event of an invasion,” the American official said.
Earlier it became known that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbass. During the telephone conversation, the diplomat confirmed “the unwavering support of the United States for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the context of the increasing military presence of the Russian Federation on the border of Ukraine.”
In recent weeks, statements have been made in Kiev and in the West about the threat of a Russian attack on Ukraine. Moscow stresses that it has no aggressive intentions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the information about a possible invasion empty and groundless escalation of tension.
