EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed coordination between Washington and Brussels in negotiations with Russia. It is reported with reference to the statement of the European Union, reports RIA Novosti.
Borrell and Blinken agreed that the US and EU would be a strong, clear and united transatlantic front on this and other issues. The statement also notes that Washington and Brussels will continue to coordinate closely on the latest developments related to Russia and Ukraine at the highest level. In addition, the EU Secretary of State and Head of Diplomacy expressed their readiness for dialogue with Russia, but not to the detriment of the freedom, sovereignty and independence of members of the transatlantic community and their partners.
Earlier, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the negotiations between the representatives of the United States and Russia following the results of two rounds can be called unsuccessful. According to a Kremlin spokesman, the parties did not reach an agreement on specific issues. “Negotiations were initiated in order to get specific answers to specific fundamental questions raised. It is on these fundamental issues that disagreements have been recorded. This is bad, ”Peskov assessed the situation.
