The unemployed took over the theater in Paris

by alex

Cultural workers, unemployed due to the pandemic, occupied a theater in Paris. Reported by the Associated Press.

A group of 50 people captured the Odeon Theater on Thursday, March 4. On the facade of the building, they hung up banners with the words “They sacrificed culture” and “Six out of 10 unemployed do not receive compensation – a shame!”. The protesters refuse to leave the building until the authorities pay attention to their demands. In particular, they ask the government to extend state aid for seasonal theater workers who are struggling to make ends meet due to the pandemic for another year.

Theaters, cinemas, museums and other cultural entertainment venues in France were closed for most of the previous year due to antiviral restrictions imposed in the country. The timing of the resumption of their work has not yet been announced.

Earlier, the head of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) Hans Kluge said that the coronavirus pandemic will last all 2021, but it can be expected to end by early 2022. He warned that this does not mean the complete disappearance of the virus.
