UNGA Chairman Shahid: Russia Contributes to Global Efforts to Combat COVID-19

Russia actively contributes to global and regional efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and plays a productive role on all six major committees. Chairman of the UN General Assembly (GA) Abdullah Shahid in an interview with RIA Novosti assessed Russia's actions in maintaining international peace and security.
“It is extremely important that such great powers as Russia are at the forefront in solving the problems of our time (…) Russia has always called for a central coordinating role for the UN in world politics … I welcome Russia's support for the work of the UN General Assembly,” he said Shahid.
Earlier, the UN supported the dialogue between Moscow and Washington in the context of the proposals put forward by Russia to the United States and NATO on security guarantees. The organization spoke out for the continuation of negotiation efforts aimed at ensuring a peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine in accordance with the Minsk agreements.
