Although the Russian "Dandelion" Structurally very similar to the Ukrainian model, it has significant differences.

The Russian enterprise of the military-industrial complex KMZ has created an attack naval drone “Dandelion”, which in its design resembles the SBU’s own development – the “Malysh” drone.

The Militarny website reports this with reference to Russian propagandists.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has already ordered 10 new drones from the Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant (KMZ) for testing. They are going to test them in the war against Ukraine.

Although the Russian “Dandelion” is structurally very similar to the Ukrainian model of a sea drone, the Russians failed to completely copy it.

There are no optical optics on the body of the “Dandelion” surveillance and target guidance devices, and this will probably not allow the drone to be used against maneuverable surface targets. It can be assumed that its purpose will be to strike static targets – bridges and port infrastructure.

Also, there are no communication antennas on board, so it is unclear how it will be controlled without satellite communications. It can be assumed that for this the Russians used an inertial system with correction based on GPS signals, as in the Shahed-136 drones. Also, the possibility of using drones as communication relays cannot be ruled out.

There are a few more differences.

KMZ states that a drone manufactured at the enterprise can carry a warhead or other payload weighing up to 600 kilograms. The Ukrainian SeaBaby drone that hit the Crimean bridge in July 2023 had 850 kg of explosives on board.

The Russian drone can cover a distance of 200 km at speeds of up to 80 km/h. The speed of movement is almost the same as that of the Ukrainian drone Magura V5, but in terms of range it is significantly inferior. It is possible that the Russians will launch their drones from ships already at sea.

Recall that SeaBaby sea surface drones successfully attacked the Crimean Bridge, as well as the Russian landing ship “Olenegorsky Gornyak” and the tanker “SIG”.
