Tu22 was shot down 300 kilometers from the border.
A strategic bomber fell over the Stavropol Territory of the Russian Federation Tu-22m3. And not only did it fall, but it was shot down by the Ukrainian military. This plane fired missiles at the territory of Ukraine and felt instant karma.
How and how Ukraine managed to shoot down a Russian strategic bomber in the skies over Russia, did the crew survive, and what do the Air Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces say about it – in exclusive to TSN.ua.< /strong>
What is known about the destruction of the plane
The Russian Federation immediately tried to cover up its tracks and stated that the plane crashed for technical reasons. Allegedly, a fire occurred on board, and the crew managed to eject. The Russian media let it slip: they say that at least two pilots were killed, in particular the commander of the crew of the downed pilot.
For the first time, anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force, in cooperation with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, destroyed the long-range strategic bomber Tu-22M3 – the carrier of Kh-22 cruise missiles, which Russian terrorists use to attack peaceful Ukrainian cities. During today's attack, two such missiles were destroyed for the first time.
Power steering and air forces were working
But how did the Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners manage to shoot down a strategic bomber? These never fly close to the front line, but work in the depths of the Russian Federation. There is an answer to this question. According to NV sources in the GUR, they shot down an enemy plane in the same way as they destroyed the Russian A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft.
“The power steering repeated the operation, shot down in the same way as the A-50,” the interlocutor said.
The source clarified that the S-200 air defense system was used for the attack.

As a result of the power steering operation in cooperation with the Air Force, the Tu-22MZ bomber, which today launched missiles across Ukraine, was destroyed
One of the Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, which carried out a missile attack against Ukraine on the night of April 19, was shot down as a result of a special operation by the Main Intelligence Directorate in cooperation with the Air Force.
The enemy Tu-22MZ aircraft was shot down at a distance of about 300 kilometers from Ukraine using the same means that had previously hit the Russian A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft. As a result of the defeat, the bomber was able to fly to the Stavropol area, where it fell and crashed.
This is the first successful mid-air destruction of a strategic bomber during a sortie during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Tu-22m3 fell in Stavropol
GUR Speaker Andrey Yusov also told some interesting details. Firstly, a Tu22M3 was shot down 300 kilometers from the border. Also, after this side was shot down, the other one, which had not yet been shot, was forced to throw its heels onto the base, so as not to kiss the ground. Thus, several Russian missiles did not fly into Ukraine.
For the first time during a combat mission in the air during the period of a full-scale invasion. That is, the other plane that was following him was forced to turn around. And this means that a number of missiles have not yet been fired at Ukraine.
What shot down the plane
The Tu S-200 that shot down looks like this. This is an old Soviet anti-aircraft missile system, developed back in the 60s. It is designed specifically for shooting down objects at long distances. Its maximum range is about 300 kilometers, and the maximum destruction altitude is as much as 40 kilometers, so the enemy Tu22M3 was just to his liking. As they say in intelligence, a Russian A-50 was also once shot down.
Defense forces await new targets
Speaker of the Air Force Ilya Yevlashalso confirmed the successful downing of Tu22M3. He says that now, to complete the set, the Defense Forces only have to shoot down another type of strategic bombers that are constantly hitting Ukraine – Tu-95.
For the first time in history, both Kh-22 missiles and two at once were shot down. Since 2022, the Russians have hit Ukraine and Ukrainian civilians with these many times, in particular, it was with this that they destroyed the Amstor shopping center in Kremenchug in 2022.
X-22 is capable of carrying up to 960 kilograms of a conventional warhead or nuclear warhead. This is more than the missiles “Caliber”, “Dagger”, Kh-101/Kh-555 and others carry.
X-22s are now shot down
This rocket also comes from the 60s, so there is no point in talking about its accuracy. About 50% of launched warheads fall within a radius of 600 meters from the designated target and are the main problem of the outdated missile. Previously, it was not possible to shoot it down, but now everything worked out. The Air Force does not say how exactly the threatening target was destroyed.
Tragedy in the Dnieper
Unfortunately, the night of April 19 was not without casualties. The insidious enemy was caught near the station in the Dnieper. Ukrzaliznytsia reported that the target of the attack was the Ukrzaliznytsia buildings. However, they recalled that, despite a short pause and some train delays, the station in Dnieper resumed operation. The rocket hit a 5-story building nearby. There were also decisions regarding the Dnepropetrovsk region. In preparation for the release, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General, it is known that 9 people died in the region.
Recall that on the night of April 19, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a combined strike on Ukraine. The enemy attacked with missiles and UAVs of the “Shahed” type.
