The chief doctors of the UK regions have proposed increasing the level of threat from coronavirus in the country to the maximum. This is stated in a statement by doctors, RIA Novosti reports.
“Following a recommendation from a single biosafety center and in light of recent data, four UK chief physicians and the NHS medical director are recommending raising the threat level from fourth to fifth,” the text says.
In addition, healthcare professionals have warned of the risk of overheating the healthcare system in the next three weeks. According to them, currently the spread of coronavirus among the population is very high, and the number of patients with COVID-19 in hospitals and intensive care units is also growing. “The number of cases is growing almost everywhere, exacerbated by a new, more infectious strain,” added the doctors.
On January 1, a record 55,000 cases of coronavirus infection per day were detected in the UK. By January 4, 2021, the number of cases of coronavirus infection in the world exceeded 85 million.
