Program "Housing for Ukrainians" will still operate
One of the temporary migration programs for Ukrainian refugees who fled the war to the UK has been closed to new applications.
This is stated in a message on the British government website, writes Ukrinform.
Ukrainian family program closed at 15:00 on February 19, 2024. It is no longer possible to apply for this program,” the message reads.
This program gave Ukrainians with relatives in the UK a three-year right to live and work in the country.
The Homes for Ukrainians programme, under which willing Britons can sponsor Ukrainian refugees, remains in place, but will expire at the end of March next year.
Ukrainians who left due to the full-scale Russian invasion will be able to extend their legal status in the UK for another year and a half by obtaining a new 18-month visa, which expires in September 2026 years.
In total, more than 283 thousand Ukrainians have received or extended asylum since the beginning of the invasion on February 24, 2022. In the months following the invasion, many British people offered their homes to refugees fleeing the conflict. Those who host a refugee or family receive £350 per month for the first year of the refugee's stay in the UK and £500 for the second year.
Recall that only 25.2% of refugees from Ukraine work, in particular, in Germany. In Denmark, 78% of Ukrainians have already found work. 66% work in the Czech Republic, 65% in Poland, 56% in Sweden and the UK, and 50% in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, in Germany, Ukrainians receive assistance in the amount of 563 euros, and children – from 357 to 471 euros, depending on age.
