The Trial of the Chicago Seven won a Screen Actors Guild Award
Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago Seven won the SAG Awards (Screen Actors Guild Awards). The film was honored with the best cast award. The 27th annual award ceremony took place the day before, according to the organization's website.
This year's awards ceremony was pre-recorded. It passed without a presenter and without a red carpet, and all the actors' speeches were recorded in advance.
Minari, Ma Rainey: Mother of the Blues, One Night in Miami and Five of the Same Blood also nominated for the Best Cast Award.
The SAG Awards for Best Actor went to Chadwick Boseman posthumously with Ma Rainey: Mother of the Blues, and the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category went to Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah). The Actors Guild Award for Best Actress went to Viola Davis (Ma Rainey: Mother of the Blues). In the Best Supporting Actress category, the award for Minari went to Yoon Ye-jung. The TV series “Crown” and “Schitt's Creek” were awarded for the cast on the TV screen. Gillian Anderson (The Crown) and Jason Bateman (The Ozark) received awards for their roles in the drama series.
As a reminder, the SAG Award has been awarded since 1995. The winners receive a bronze statuette depicting an actor holding a mask in his hand. This award is considered one of the significant indicators of the US Academy Awards.
Earlier it was reported that the Oscar ceremony could be held outside America for the first time. The organizers decided to add two new venues in Paris and London for the ceremony, after previously it was announced about the full-time format of the event and the ban on participation through Zoom.
