The timing of the release of the Russian vaccine “Sputnik V” on the EU market has been disclosed. This was stated by Wolf-Dieter Ludwig, representative of the Standing Committee of European Doctors CPME in the governing council of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), he is quoted by the Karenina edition of the Petersburg Dialogue forum.
In his opinion, the admission of the drug can take place in six to eight weeks. “The results, which were published in the Lancet, are generally credible. Therefore, I assume that after a thorough EMA check, admission will follow, ”says Ludwig.
According to him, the process may be delayed, because between Russia and the EU “there is no established practice of this kind.”
On March 4, EMA began an examination of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. The European regulator expects that the assessment will take place in a short time. Hungary and Slovakia have already approved the use of “Sputnik V” on an individual basis, without waiting for the registration of the drug in the EU.
Sputnik V is the first registered Russian coronavirus vaccine based on adenovirus. The drug is registered in more than 50 countries. Currently, the development of Russian scientists is among the ten best vaccine candidates in the list of the World Health Organization.
