Head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Virology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Novosibirsk State University, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Netesov called the timing of the preservation of cellular immunity to COVID-19. In his opinion, after vaccination or illness, he lasts for about six months, reports URA.RU.

The specialist emphasized that T-cell immunity for most mass vaccines has already been investigated. He also explained that T lymphocytes destroy cells affected by the virus and also create long-term protection against infection even in the absence of antibodies.

As a result of clinical trials of the first and second groups, it turned out that cellular immunity also arises after the “Sputnik V” vaccination. The virologist added that little time had passed, so it is not known exactly how long such immunity lasts.

“… But for half a year it works exactly, in particular, for those who have had coronavirus,” concluded Netesov.

Establishing T-cell immunity after illness or vaccination is not easy because the procedure is expensive and time consuming. It will take three tests, the cost of one of them ranges from 20 to 30 thousand rubles.

Alexei Agranovsky, professor of the Department of Virology, Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University, confirmed that little time had passed to accurately describe the work of the human immune system. “We do not yet know much about the mechanisms of immunity in response to infection with COVID-19 and vaccination, because the history of the epidemic is too short. Intensive research is underway now, ”he said.

Earlier, the virologist named the duration of the action of immunity to coronavirus. According to Vladimir Bolibok, it lasts about six to eight months.
