The publication's source claims that Cameron and Trump discussed concluding an agreement on Ukraine in January 2025, when Trump could become president.

The Times reported that British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and US presidential candidate Donald Trump held closed negotiations on Ukraine.

The publication, citing its own sources, claims that Cameron told Trump that the new aid will help Ukraine hold the front line and provide “the best possible conditions” for concluding an agreement with the Russian Federation in January 2025. That's when Trump, he believes, will become president.

“What are the best conditions under which you, as president (USA – ed.), can conclude an agreement in January (2025, that is, after a likely election victory. – Ed.)? This is when both sides hold their positions and pay the price for it,” Cameron is quoted as saying by The Times.

This article forced British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to justify himself, because what Cameron said is far from the official line of London. In a comment to Politico, Sunak assured that Britain's position on the war in Ukraine has not changed.

He said he had not seen the article, but stressed that “Putin must be defeated.”

“It is more important than ever in this conflict that Putin receives a very clear message that we will support Ukraine for as long as necessary. An investment in Ukraine's security is an investment in our security. Our allies in NATO is already worried about the prospect that if Putin succeeds, they will be next – with all the ensuing consequences,” says the British Prime Minister.

Earlier, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron opposed the idea of French President Emmanuel Macron to send Western troops to Ukraine in the event of a breakthrough at the front.
