Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie travels to Ukraine because of the threat of another Russian invasion.
So, Jolie's office said that her six-day trip should confirm “Canada's unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
In Kiev, Jolie plans to meet with Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal and Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishyna.
She is also expected to visit Canadian troops stationed in Ukraine to support the local military.
“The concentration of Russian troops and equipment in and around Ukraine endangers security throughout the region. These aggressive actions must be contained,” Jolie said in a media statement.
She stressed that Canada will work with its international partners to maintain a rules-based international order.
Recall that the Kremlin has concentrated more than 100,000 troops along its border with Ukraine.
This raised fears that Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning a new military invasion of Ukraine.
On January 14, US intelligence officials said that Russia had prepared a special operation to justify a possible invasion of Ukraine.
In addition, on January 14, there was a cyber attack on government websites of Ukraine, in which the Russian Federation is suspected.
