The third runway at the airport comes later due to Corona

The planned construction of a third runway at Vienna-Schwechat Airport will be postponed indefinitely due to the corona pandemic.

The corona pandemic continues to cause difficulties at Schwechat airport (Bruck an der Leitha district). A long-term consequence was announced on Thursday: There is now no money for the already fixed construction of the third runway. The plans are on hold.

Before the pandemic, work had been planned to start in 2024 or 2025. Now the project has been postponed indefinitely. There is also a lack of money for other investments.

While the measure is a major setback for the airport, the Greens, NEOS and WWF are even happy about the decisions and hope that the third runway will no longer come at all.
