The surgeon explained what to do if the baby swallowed the magnet

Small children are curious creatures, they want to explore the world, touch and taste the objects around them. However, such experiments often turn into accidents when magnets, designer parts and other little things end up in the child's stomach. The head of the children's surgical department of the Ramensk Central Regional Hospital Vladimir Khabalov told when it was time to run to the doctor.

According to the specialist, if a child swallows objects that do not threaten health, for example, small toys or lego parts, they must leave the body on their own under the supervision of doctors. But when it comes to magnets, batteries or sharp objects, the situation is different.

“Such items are extremely dangerous and must be removed as soon as possible,”

The surgeon added that there are cases in practice when batteries or open pins were removed from the baby's stomach with an endoscope. At the same time, one swallowed magnet will not have a negative effect on health, it will simply leave the body itself.

However, if there are two or more magnets in the child's stomach, the danger increases significantly. The doctor must urgently remove them before the fragments fall into the deeper parts of the gastrointestinal tract, Khabarov concluded.

Earlier Letidor wrote that Russian doctors removed 3 kg of hair from the stomach of an 11-year-old girl.
