The Supreme Court told about the punishment for insults in social networks

For personal insult in private correspondence, a fine of three to five thousand rubles is threatened, for public insult on the Internet, including in group chats, a fine of five to ten thousand rubles is provided, writes Rossiyskaya Gazeta with reference to the review of the Supreme court.

The corresponding fines are provided for by the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. It is noted that in the first case, we are talking about messages, including voice messages, on social networks, instant messengers, as well as SMS messages.

To record an insult on the Internet, you need to contact a notary, and then contact the prosecutor's office. The consideration of the case will be dealt with by the magistrate's court.

According to the Judicial Department at the Supreme Court of Russia, in 2020 the courts punished more than 13.5 thousand Russians for insulting.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law to remove from the Internet without a court decision inaccurate information defaming the honor of citizens.
