The Supreme Court of Russia has decided to liquidate the international “Memorial” – an organization that investigates political repression in the Soviet Union.
This is reported by the Russian media.
< p> The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation filed a lawsuit against Memorial. At the court session, representatives of the department stated that Memorial carried out its activities with gross violations, because “it prefers to criticize the state,” RTVi reports.
“It is obvious that Memorial, speculating on the topic of political repression of the 20th century, creates a deceitful image of the USSR as a terrorist state, whitewash and rehabilitate Nazi criminals, on whose hands the blood of Soviet citizens, “said a representative of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.
It should be noted that in the Russian Federation this organization is was recognized as a foreign agent back in 2016. In addition, the Memorial Human Rights Center (foreign agent since 2014) also operates in Russia. The issue of its liquidation is also being considered in court.
The Memorial International Historical, Educational, Human Rights and Charitable Society is a society dedicated to preserving the memory of political repressions in the USSR in the XX century and human rights activities, has dozens of public organizations in Russia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Georgia, Ukraine and other countries.
