Chairman of the Board of the Foundation of the Valdai International Discussion Club, journalist Andrey Bystritsky appreciated the successes of Russian diplomacy in the field of security. He stressed that the issues of concern to Moscow were put at the center of the world agenda, TASS reports.

“Russian diplomacy is pursuing a rather offensive foreign policy. The fact that the issues that concern Russia are at the center of the world agenda can undoubtedly be considered a success of diplomacy,” the expert said, adding that the near future will show what steps need to be taken further, since there are a lot of challenges.

Significant factors Bystritsky called the fact that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron will soon visit Russia. The expert stressed that they represent the core of Europe, a direct dialogue with them is important, since Europe should act as an independent entity.

Andrey Kortunov, Director General of the Russian Council for International Affairs, noted that Russian diplomacy is implementing the course determined by the country’s political leadership as effectively as possible, despite the fact that they work in difficult conditions. According to him, this is noticeable to everyone, including Moscow’s opponents.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia would be open to negotiations with the West only if they take place on equal terms and take into account the concerns of both sides. “This thesis was not developed specifically for NATO, this is our position and, again, not know-how, it is laid down in the international legal agreements that are of fundamental importance to us, in the UN Charter first of all,” she said.
