The State Duma criticized WhatsApp's personal data policy

Member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin criticized WhatsApp's new personal data policy, calling it contrary to ethics and Russian law, TASS reports.

From May 15, everyone who uses the messenger is obliged to share data, including information about transactions, with Facebook as part of the new user agreement. Those who have not accepted the new terms will not be able to open chat lists, but will continue to receive audio and video calls.

“The new WhatsApp policy is unethical. Also recently, a law developed by me began to operate, according to which the operator of personal data is obliged to ask the user's consent to transfer them to third parties. WhatsApp does this in an ultimatum, giving no choice. In my opinion, this is a violation of the law, ”the deputy stressed.

We add that after the publication of the terms of the new agreement, many WhatsApp users switched to other instant messengers, the majority to Telegram.

Recall that last year WhatsApp became the most popular application for smartphones in the Russian Federation.
