RIA Novosti: Republic Square in Alma-Ata fenced off with military armored vehicles

Republic Square in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, where riots took place at night, were cordoned off by the military. This was announced on Wednesday, January 5, by a RIA Novosti correspondent.
The square was fenced off with military armored vehicles, and public utilities are eliminating the consequences of the protests. Several military units are located along the perimeter of the square.
The agency notes that mobile Internet still does not work in the city, messengers are blocked.
On January 2, protests against the rise in fuel prices began in Kazakhstan, and on January 4, protesters clashed with security forces on Republic Square in Alma-Ata. Law enforcers used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the protests. In Alma-Ata and in the Mangistau region, a state of emergency was introduced until January 19, during the period of the state of emergency a curfew was declared from 23.00 to 7.00.
Amid the protests, Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev dismissed the government of the republic, and also instructed to introduce state regulation of prices for liquefied gas, gasoline, diesel and socially important products for a period of 180 days.
