The threat of flooding in St. Petersburg due to the expansion of the area of alluvial territories must be assessed after conducting global scientific research, the dam's directorate said. Earlier, the KZS stated that the continuation of alluvial flows in the water area of the Neva Bay is “inexpedient.”
“How much it affects (alluvial – ed.) Needs to be assessed. Probably, it is necessary to conduct more global scientific research, which would show how much the area of the water area can be reduced. Deputy General Director for Operations of the Directorate of the Complex of Protective Structures of St. Petersburg (KZS) Igor Polishchuk.
“The smaller the mirror of the Neva, the faster the Neva will fill the closed water area,” he added.
The Polytech volunteered to calculate how the alluvium will affect the hydrological situation in the Gulf of Finland. “The Polytechnic University has all the competencies for the scientific solution of this issue,” said Galina Kozinets, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Director of the Higher School of Hydraulic and Power Engineering Construction of the Polytechnic University
“To solve all these problems, it is necessary to unequivocally build an information model, which would include Lake Ladoga, the Neva, the Gulf of Finland. The Polytechnic University has experience in building such models, they turn to us for this,” she clarified.
“We are now at the stage of concluding an agreement on the Ob-Irtysh basin. Governors of the adjacent regions have contacted us. If they contact us, we will do this work,” Kozinets stressed.
So far, only the southern part of the alluvium near Vasilievsky has been realized. The rights to create and develop the northern part were acquired by the LSR holding last year. There, “DP” said that they learned about the position of the dam directorate from media reports. At the conference, the representative of the Group also noted that LSR is ready to conduct research.
“We, the LSR company, will also, as far as possible, do what is required of us in order for this model to be formed,” assured Sergey Begoulev, General Director of LSR. Basic. He recalled that LSR plans to complete the entire complex by 2034.
The management of the dam, as the DP wrote earlier, asks to abandon the construction of the alluvium, as it poses a threat of floods. But the investor says that he is experienced and not afraid. The talks about the flood were linked to the pre-election activity.
