Donald Trump has not yet made a decision on selling weapons to Ukraine. He is trying to act as carefully as possible with regard to the Russian dictator Putin. The situation here is specific.
Military expert and co-founder of the Defense Information Consortium Mykhailo Samus told Channel 24 about this, noting that military aid to Ukraine or arms sales are not currently on Trump's agenda. The US president also avoids increasing sanctions against Russia.
Why Trump Isn't Taking Tough Action Against Putin
As Samus noted, all this is happening for one reason. Trump is convinced that he has the opportunity to gently influence dictator Putin through special representative Steve Witkoff. In this way, he wants to achieve a ceasefire and, ultimately, an end to the war.
This is, of course, a strategic mistake. Trump always makes it. The Americans themselves say that Trump always retreats. He is convinced that he has a chance to reach an agreement with Putin. Trump believes that Putin can recognize the fact of selling weapons to Ukraine as an aggressive action, Samus said.
The situation here is really interesting. And Trump is not acting in the context of morals or values. He is acting coldly and pragmatically because he believes that he has the ability to make a deal with Putin. To do this, he needs to maintain positive communication with the dictator.
He doesn't care how many more Ukrainians the Russians will kill. It doesn't concern him at all. After “Web”, he even said that Ukraine and Russia are like children in a park. And they should fight a little more. And then in the fall he will see how everything goes. That is, Trump is seriously considering the possibility of giving Russia more time to hit Ukraine. Perhaps then we will become more pliable from his point of view. That's his logic, – Samus emphasized.
Let's add that there are risks that the US may actually stop military aid to Ukraine. They want to shift all the problems to Europe.
