The US Congress should quickly approve new aid for Ukraine.
There is fierce fighting for Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. The situation is critical. The city may fall under the control of Russian occupiers, since the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not have enough artillery shells.
This was stated by White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby during a briefing on February 15.
“Unfortunately, the Ukrainians report that the situation is critical. The Russians continue to put pressure on Ukrainian positions every day. Avdiivka may fall under Russian control. This is largely because Ukrainian troops on the ground are running out of artillery ammunition “, noted Kirby.
John Kirby emphasized that Congress has still not approved new funding for $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, and the United States cannot transfer artillery shells to Ukrainian defenders to thwart Russian attacks.
“Russian forces have now reached the Ukrainian fortification at Avdiivka and are beginning to overcome Ukrainian defenses. The cost of Congressional inaction is enormous,” Kirby added.
Recall that on February 13, the US Senate approved a combined aid package for Ukraine worth more than $60 billion, as well as for Israel and Taiwan. However, Trumpist Mike Johnson did hint that he would not bring the Senate-voted bill to the lower house of Congress.
