Andrey Kiselev, a leading researcher at the Voeikov Main Geophysical Observatory, named global warming as the main climatic threat for Russia. According to him, in the country it goes 2.5 times faster than in other states, and even faster in the Arctic. An interview with a scientist is published by Vzglyad.
As the expert explained, this process is due to the fact that in the middle latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, the land area is less than the ocean area. Accordingly, there is no effective heat exchange between the planet's surface and the atmosphere, and the land reacts faster to temperature changes.
Kiselev noted that warming has both positive and negative sides. The rise in temperature will make it possible to grow new crops in Russia, but they will harbor more pests. In addition, the most serious threat is the melting of permafrost.
Due to the degradation of this layer, a lot of catastrophes and accidents can occur. For example, the objects will suffer, the construction of which did not take into account the possibility of permafrost thawing. In addition, greenhouse gases from it will enter the atmosphere.
Earlier, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, urged not to be afraid of climate change, since by the end of the millennium winter will still not be reduced to two months.
