President of the National Association “Compliance” Vladimir Balakin reminded the Russians in an interview with RIA Novosti that the laws do not prohibit leaving a child alone in an apartment, but if he gets injured, parents face criminal liability and deprivation of parental rights.

The lawyer recalled that a child under the age of 14 is considered a minor, therefore, in the event of an injury or a situation that threatens his life and health, the parents can be prosecuted for leaving them in danger. The maximum punishment under such an article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation implies imprisonment for up to one year.

In addition, there is a risk that the guardianship authorities will raise the issue of deprivation of parental rights. At the same time, in practice, employees of medical institutions, where the injured child enters, usually turn to law enforcement or guardianship authorities.

In the event that a child receives injuries incompatible with life, the parents face punishment for causing death by negligence with imprisonment for up to two years.

On December 5, three children died in a fire in a private house in the Rostov region. At the time of the fire, the minors were alone at home. It is not reported where the parents of the children were at the time of the fire.
