The term for re-vaccination against coronavirus directly depends on the level of antibodies that remained in the body after vaccination or an illness. Professor of the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University (Virginia), Doctor of Biological Sciences Ancha Baranova told about this in an interview with TASS.
There are now two types of antibody tests, she said: the Italian Liason test from DiaSorin and the Abbott test called Quant. In the first, the antibody scale goes from 15 to 400, while a level of 200-300 is considered a good result. This indicator suggests that a person has good immunity from coronavirus.
The second test detects antibodies that specifically neutralize the coronavirus. He has a scale from 50 to 40 thousand. If the indicator is above 1.3 thousand – immunity is good, if from 500 to 1.3 thousand – there is a risk of getting sick, if less than 500 – you need to be vaccinated or revaccinated, Baranova said.
At the same time, the expert explained that, although antibodies are produced in those who have been ill with COVID-19, protection during vaccination is, on average, better than after being ill with coronavirus.
Baranova added that it is not possible to assume how long the antibodies will remain in the body. According to her, for some they will be at a high level for a long time, for others they will quickly fall, and it is possible to determine belonging to one category or another only by measuring the level of antibodies.
Earlier, Russian scientists evaluated the effectiveness of repeated vaccination with Sputnik V. They found that after being vaccinated with Sputnik V, the body produces antibodies not only to the coronavirus, but also to the vector components of the vaccine. According to experts, the likelihood of an immune response to repeated administration of the drug is there, but, most likely, it will be within the usual side effects of the vaccine.
