The Russians replaced the commander of the Black Sea Fleet – ISW: what happened to the previous one

by alex

Under the leadership of the previous commander Sokolov, the Black Sea Fleet lost about 20% of its strength.

The Russians replaced the commander of the Black Sea Fleet and appointed him to this position of Chief of Staff of the Black Sea Fleet, Vice Admiral Sergei Pinchuk.

This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Russian sources stated that the Russian military has officially fired the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Viktor Sokolov, and replaced him with Pinchuk.

Sokolov probably died as a result of the Ukrainian attack on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in occupied Sevastopol (Crimea) in September 2023.

A Russian military blogger claimed that Sokolov, who has been the commander of the Black Sea Fleet since September 2022, has banned the fleet from installing non-standard devices on ships to detect maritime drones and other technologically advanced equipment. The blogger also claimed that the Black Sea Fleet lost about 20% of its strength under the command of Sokolov.
