The feeling of melancholy in the midst of the holidays is quite common, Izvestia writes with reference to experts.
Michelle Martel, professor of psychology at the University of Kentucky's College of Arts and Sciences, says organizing the perfect holiday is not easy. It includes preparing for a festive meal with shopping, buying gifts, cleaning and decorating the house, visiting relatives, and possible blockage at work.
In addition, the accumulated stress from the coronavirus pandemic puts pressure on the psyche. “Holidays often bring sad memories to people whose loved ones have passed away. All of these factors can cause anxiety and increase the risk of depression, ”says Martel.
Psychologist Carrie Vargas, in turn, noted that in 2021 people, especially those who are not very sociable, experienced even more stress than in 2020, when it became possible to limit communication and avoid large gatherings.
Earlier, Denis Khakimov, a specialist at the Moscow Psychological Aid Service, explained how to live the New Year without disappointment. The psychologist advised to live the New Year surrounded by relatives and friends, who will give the joy of communication and vivid impressions. He recalled that a lot of worries before the holiday take away strength. Therefore, in order to create a New Year's mood for, you need to make a shopping list in advance, postpone household chores and make yourself a gift.
