The Russians called the dangers of biometrics

InfoWatch President Natalya Kasperskaya advised to be careful when submitting biometric data and “not be convenient”: in her opinion, such data is too easy to steal. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

The main danger in the implementation of biometrics, Kaspersky considers the inability to protect and verify such data.

“They will be stolen, sold, and merged almost with a guarantee. Let us first explain how this data is planned to be protected, including from our employees, ”she said.

In her opinion, if biometrics becomes ubiquitous, there are risks that fraudsters will use someone else's data for large real estate transactions, managing bank accounts or accessing closed objects.

“Citizens submit fingerprints and photos of faces, their faces are taken without their knowledge and consent on the streets, in transport, in offices and shopping centers, and then such information can be leaked, stolen, intercepted and used,” said Kasperskaya.

The Moscow police warned that fraudsters can apply for a loan not only thanks to someone else's passport, but also using someone else's biometric data. As the Ministry of Internal Affairs told TASS, the criminals began to call bank clients, record their voices, and then use them to obtain loans.

The police explained that some banks provide customers with a service for issuing loans based on biometric data, including voice.

“Attackers make calls to bank clients who already have a voice recognition service connected, and ask questions that only need to be answered“ yes ”or“ no, ”the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Fraudsters record conversations with victims and then use the records to apply for a loan, police said.

Banks collect biometric data and transfer them to the Unified Biometric System (UBS) only at the request and consent of customers.

The manager of Alfa-Bank in the Sverdlovsk region, Elena Razumovskaya, told 74.ru that voice alone is not enough to carry out transactions: a combination of data, for example, a person and a voice, is always required, and in the case of a voice, not one word is used, but a special sequence phrases or numbers.

Olga Mauter, director of the Raiffeisenbank network of offices, confirmed that one vote would not be enough to carry out transactions: it is also necessary to indicate the login and password received during registration in the EBS, show the face in the camera and name the code word.
