Most of the Russians who recovered from the coronavirus experienced post-COVID syndrome. Kommersant writes about this with reference to a study by VCIOM.

So, 79 percent of respondents in the course of the survey answered that they found the consequences of the disease in themselves. The most common were long-term disturbance in the sense of taste and smell, general weakness, shortness of breath, insomnia, depression and anxiety. Also, the Russians complained about the deterioration of memory, vision, hearing, absent-mindedness, prolonged cough, hair loss. At the same time, 80 percent of those surveyed admitted that they ignored the opportunity to undergo rehabilitation.

“Russians for the most part assume that post-COVID manifestations will go away by themselves. But they can lead to more serious complications,” warned the deputy director of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gorelov.

On February 17, Gorelov said that the post-covid syndrome in those who had previously had an infection could last up to a year. “That time period in the standard definition – post-COVID – is two months, then it became four months, six months, and now we are talking up to a year,” he said. According to him, every third patient after COVID-19 suffers from the brain. The infectious disease specialist, citing foreign studies, said that coronavirus can lead to 16 neurological consequences, including weakness, insomnia and irritability. After an infection, chronic diseases can either worsen or new pathologies appear, the specialist noted.

Earlier, Tatyana Ruzhentsova, Deputy Director for Clinical Work at the Gabrichevsky Moscow Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, noted that the post-covid syndrome as a result of the transferred omicron strain of coronavirus is milder than that of the delta. “First of all, they complain about anxiety, impaired memory, poor sleep, impaired pressure, pressure drops in patients, and gastrointestinal manifestations are also disturbing. The spectrum is still very large, ”the expert emphasized. She added that in children the effects of coronavirus are less pronounced than in adults. Most often, adolescents complain of a decrease in learning ability and memory problems.
