The Russian “super-tank “Armata” will not appear in Ukraine: British intelligence explained why

Russia is hesitant to abandon its newest tank "Armata" for the war in Ukraine, because he is afraid that he will be destroyed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Despite numerous announcements and promises, Russia has not deployed its most modern main battle tank T-14 “Armata”.

The intelligence of the British Ministry of Defense writes about this in its report for March 5.

So, on March 4, 2024, Sergei Chemezov, head of the Russian defense company Rostec, announced that the most modern Russian main battle tank (MBT) T-14 Armata entered service with the Russian army, but not will be deployed in Ukraine. Chemezov stated that this is due to the high cost, which limits large-scale production of the Armata BBT.

The debut of the Armata armored personnel carrier took place on Russian Victory Day 2015 – then the tank got stuck during a rehearsal. Next, the 1st Guards Tank Army was supposed to receive the 2021 T-14 Armata, but it is unlikely that deliveries to any frontline unit took place.

Later in December 2022, the new generation tank was spotted during exercises in southern Russia, and Kremlin news agencies said it would be used in Ukraine.

“Today, it can almost certainly be said that the T-14 “Armata” was not deployed in Ukraine. This is very likely due to potential reputational damage from the loss of a “prestigious vehicle in battle”, as well as -due to the need to produce more tanks, which can only be satisfied through other options,” say British intelligence.

Recall that in the fall of 2023, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, reported that the Russians had never used Armata tanks at the front. He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is afraid to send these vehicles to the front, since this is fraught with serious image losses for his already sluggish defense industry.
