The test launch of the Zircon hypersonic missile was carried out in the White Sea by the Russian Navy frigate Admiral Gorshkov. This was reported in a press release from the Ministry of Defense, which came to the editorial office of Lenta.ru.
The shooting was carried out at a complex target position located in the water area of the Barents Sea. As a result, the Zircon successfully hit a sea target at a distance of 450 kilometers. The rocket speed was more than Mach 8.
“The closure of the shooting area was ensured by the forces of the Northern Fleet operating in the Barents Sea, including the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov and the frigate Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov,” the Defense Ministry said.
The Zircon hypersonic missile was first launched in early October 2020.
At the same time it was reported that during one of the three tests planned before the end of the year, “Zircon” will destroy the aircraft carrier of a simulated enemy. A TASS source in the military-industrial complex said that “all three launches will be carried out with real destruction of sea or land targets.”
