The match between the national teams of Russia and Slovakia at the Youth World Championship (MFM) in ice hockey has been canceled. RIA Novosti reports.
The Russian national team was awarded a technical defeat in the match due to a case of coronavirus infection in the team. In accordance with the rules of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), as a result of the game, the victory of Slovakia was fixed with a score of 1: 0.
The match was supposed to take place on December 30 at 00:30. Earlier on December 29, it became known that the meeting between the national teams of Finland and the Czech Republic, which was supposed to take place on December 29 at 22:00, was canceled. The Czech team received a technical defeat due to a positive coronavirus test from a player.
On December 28, the US youth team was awarded a forfeit after the match with Switzerland was canceled. The manager of the American national team, John Vanbisbrook, said that the team was extremely disappointed with what happened. He noted that the national team will continue to do everything so that the players can continue their performance at the World Cup.
The Russian national team plays in the same group with the USA and Switzerland. The match against the Americans is scheduled for the night of January 1. The Russians played with the Swiss on December 28. Domestic hockey players beat their rivals with a score of 4: 2.
The World Youth Hockey Championship is held from December 26 to January 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Canada. Of the five teams in the group, four will advance to the playoffs.
