The Russian national team defeated the Australians in the group stage of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Cup in Sydney. The results are available on the tournament website.
The Russians turned out to be stronger with a score of 2: 0. First, Roman Safiullin defeated James Duckworth (7: 6 (8: 6), 6: 4). Then Daniil Medvedev beat Alex de Minaura with a score of 6: 4, 6: 2.
In doubles, the Russians will fight with John Pierce and Luke Saville. However, the result of this match will not affect anything, since successful singles meetings provided the Russian team with an early victory.
On December 5 last year, the Russian national team won the Davis Cup for the first time in 15 years, beating the Croatian team. First, Andrei Rublev defeated Borno Goyo – 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 5), and then Medvedev – over Marina Cilic (7: 6, 6: 2). In the semifinals, the Russian team turned out to be stronger than the Germans.
