Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) began to use ammunition filled with phosphorus in the suburbs of Kyiv. This was announced to Lente.ru by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov.

“Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, desperate to contain the offensive of the group of troops of the Russian Armed Forces, began the massive use of ammunition filled with phosphorus in the suburbs of Kyiv near the Gostomel airfield,” he said.

Konashenkov clarified that the Ukrainian military uses 122-millimeter shells for D-30 howitzers and rockets for Soviet-made BM-21 Grad installations. According to him, the use of these ammunition is prohibited by the third protocol of the 1980 UN Convention on Inhumane Weapons.

Earlier on February 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Ministry of Defense to put the Russian deterrence forces on special alert. At a meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, Putin noted that the West is not only taking unfriendly actions in the economic sphere with respect to Moscow, but also allowing aggressive statements.

On February 24, the President of Russia announced the launch of a special operation in the Donbass, during which the Russian authorities “will strive to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine.”
