Moscow, together with partners, is working to reduce the share of the dollar in international settlements, said Dmitry Birichevsky, head of the economic cooperation department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, RIA Novosti writes.

According to the diplomat, Moscow continues to work on this issue as usual. “With some countries we are already actually switching over to mutual settlements in national currencies,” he said. The diplomat said that Russia is seeking to reduce the use of the dollar both in domestic international reserves and in external payments.

In addition, attention is gradually shifting to alternative capital markets to the American one. It is important to provide reliable and secure channels for the transmission of financial information, added Birichevsky. “Increasing the share of mutual payments in national currencies with the main trading partners is the key elements of the daily work of the departments of the economic bloc,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman summed up.

Earlier, Mikhail Shulgin, head of the Otkritie Investments global research department, said that the US dollar will continue to be the dominant reserve currency, since this arrangement suits most of the participants in international currency and trade relations.
